Athletic Trainer

Welcome to the role of Athletic Trainer! As an Athletic Trainer, you will be an integral part of a team of professionals dedicated to providing the best possible care for athletes. You will have the opportunity to work closely with athletes and coaches to help them reach their goals. You will use your knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology to assess injuries, develop treatment plans, and educate athletes on injury prevention and rehabilitation. You will also have the opportunity to work with a variety of different athletes, from professional athletes to amateur and recreational athletes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Evaluates athletes and sports related injuries, designs and implements appropriate rehabilitation and therapeutic care plans to allow for optimal recovery and return to play/activity.
  2. Documents evaluations, progress reports, daily treatment plans, education, outcomes and discharge notes.
  3. Communicates evaluations, assessments, treatment plans, return to play progress, etc. to the athletic staff, parents, physicians, and other care team members as needed.
  4. Provides education for athletes, parents, coaches, and administration as well as throughout the hospital system.
  5. Identifies and applies bracing, bandaging, and taping as needed to prevent or protect athlete from injuries or deficits when appropriate.
  6. Provided cross coverage as needed throughout the UNC Blue Ridge Healthcare System at the direction of the Sports Medicine Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: College graduate with a BS, MS or MA degree from a CAATE accredited program or degree with internship route to BOC Certification.

Experience: One-year experience preferred but not required. 

License/Registration:  Current certification through the NATA Board of Certification and licensed by the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.  Completion of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider which includes BLS and AED training.        

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Range of motion within functional limits.  Functional hearing and vision.  Frequent push 40#, pull 80#, lift 35# from floor to 53” height.  Frequent standing/walking, bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, kneeling.  Occasionally sitting.  Exit/enter vehicle and provide own transportation to offsite locations.
