Summer Camp Counselor or Instructor

Do you enjoy the outdoors and need summer employment? The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) may have a job for you.

The FWC is looking for summer camp counselors and instructors for its Ocala Outdoor Adventure Camp located in Marion County. Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and pass a mandatory background check, as well as have a desire to mentor boys and girls, ages 8-17, in conservation-minded programs. The camp’s fun and educational, hands-on programs, such as fishing, canoeing, swimming, and hiking, motivate campers to become good stewards of fish and wildlife resources.

The camp offers seven one-week sessions beginning June 9th. Employees must be available for all sessions. Employees must also be available for mandatory staff training starting June 2nd. Pay starts at $600/week (food and housing included).

Positions Available:

Counselors- The counselors are the backbone of the summer youth camp program, and the success of the summer relies on the counselor’s interactions with the campers.  Their sole responsibility is the safety and welfare of the campers and to ensure that the campers have a fun and positive camping experience.  Counselors are required to assist program instructors as needed.  You must be able to perform other duties assigned and previous camp experience is preferred.

Instructors - Outdoor Adventure Camp Instructors will work closely with the Camp and Program Directors on a variety of tasks related to the implementation of the Outdoor Adventure Camp vision and programs, while maintaining the safety and well-being of the campers as the priority. Instructors must have a working knowledge of Florida’s natural resources and the ability to understand and implement programmatic risk management procedures. Instructor positions include Archery Instructor, Hunter Safety Instructor, Canoe/Kayak Instructor, Fishing Instructor, and Lifeguard.
