Intern Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Electrical Engineering student for a paid summer internship for the Summer of 2024 for our Oak Ridge, TN office. The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2024.

 

We will be accepting resumes and resumes will be reviewed as they are received. Interviews will take place in January/February 2024. Offers will be extended in March 2024. Timeframe subject to change.

 

Job Description

The summer internship will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of electrical engineering. The intern will be exposed to a variety of electrical engineering experiences and tasks including, but not limited to glovebox electrical design, lighting, grounding, fire detection, communication analysis and design, instrumentation and control design.

 

The position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with engineers, designers, and clients, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently and in a team environment, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Merrick does not pay relocation fees nor provide a living stipend. This is an intern position and is not for degreed engineers who have recently graduated.

 

Required Experience

  • Knowledge of electrical and lighting design and/or power system design a plus
  • Knowledge of Microstation a plus
  • Knowledge of PLC design a plus
  • Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
