Summer Intern/Environment, Health, and Safety

Department Description:

The Marietta site Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) Department is responsible for directing and supporting EHS&S programs to ensure a safe work environment, compliance with laws, regulations and GSK Standards, and ensuring that EHS-related risks and impacts are effectively managed. The department provides EHS&S technical guidance and support to site personnel.

Job Description:

This position will allow the selected candidate to support the implementation and maintenance of EHS&S programs to mitigate key risks to the site. The specific deliverable for this role includes:

  • Conducting area and personal noise monitoring and/or Industrial Hygiene chemical monitoring in manufacturing and support areas
  • Migrating existing EHS safety / legal requirements register into electronic online database
  • Revising/enhancing the existing EHS&S training modules onsite (including computer-based training modules, instructor led training materials, etc.) to improve the end user experience

 Other programs and EHS&S deliverables may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or closely related field.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 12-week internship cycle (May-July/August).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of Industrial Safety programs and regulations, such as Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hot Work, Material Handling, Noise, Ergonomics, Safety Data Sheets, etc.
  • Basic understanding of instructional design processes and training program development.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
