Commercial & Employee Benefits Intern

Job Summary:

The overall objective of the Commercial & Employee Benefits Intern is to provide quality HR compliance and administrative support to the Human Resources Director. This position requires attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a desire to learn and understand the fundamental principles of Commercial & Employee Benefits insurance. The Commercial & Employee Benefits Intern will receive hands-on exposure learning the basics of the Commercial and Life/Health insurance markets as well as standard policies and procedures. The Commercial & Employee Benefits Intern performs the essential functions of the position noted below, while meeting the quality and service standards developed by the agency.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with an assigned book of business and client transactional needs including marketing and service according to agency standards and procedures.
  • Provides technical support to Producers specifically in analyzing client needs, coverage forms and quotations.
  • Works with the Account Manager & Client Relationship Manager to ensure proper coverage and pricing that meets the client’s needs.
  • Creates Open Enrollment Materials.
  • Processes account transactions as needed assuring that all items are handled in a timely manner, are accurate and reflect the established agency procedures. This includes, but is not limited to;
  • Certificates and ID cards
  • Proposals, schedules, and summaries of insurance
  • Enrollment, changes, and terminations of client employees
  • Manages cancellation processes according to agency standards, addressing both carrier and client request as received and advising the Account Manager.
  • Sets priorities and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Keeps informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Actively seek ways to improve client service and communicate ideas for improved client service to superior positions.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing, to explain policies and procedures, to receive and interpret complex information, and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to understand written and oral communication and interpret abstract information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Confident, self-starter who works well independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related field or at least one year of work towards a degree in Business Administration, or related field.
