Gap Year Opportunity - Clinical Coordinator at Jacobi Medical Center

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to work as a Clinical Coordinator in the Tropical Medicine Clinic at Jacobi Medical Center. The job would be a fantastic opportunity for recent pre-health graduates (including May 2023) who are residents of New York and looking to build unique clinical exposure and research experiences during their gap years before further education in medicine (MD/DO, NP, PA, RN). We are one of the most active and renowned Parasitology centers in the Northeast region of the United States and serve a vast immigrant community in New York City. The responsibilities of the Clinical Coordinator for Parasitology would be the following:


 

  • Assist with administrative tasks of the clinic, including reception, scheduling appointments, checking patients in, prior authorizations, obtaining and scanning medical records
  • Collaborating with the Patient Care Associate (PCA) and Department Coordinator to triage patients during clinic sessions
  • Patient navigation
  • Taking vital signs and performing medication reconciliations
  • Consolidating and keeping record of patient images and scans for future educational/research purposes
  • Coordinating (and potentially participating in) research activities on neglected parasitic infections seen in the clinic
  • Assist with activities on CDC-funded grants aiming to spread awareness of neglected parasitic infections (this entails attending outreach, designing educational material, scheduling meetings, etc.)
  • Serve as a site coordinator for the GeoSentinel Program, a worldwide surveillance program run by CDC (reviewing and entering patient data into the GeoSentinel database, etc.)
  • Coordinating send out labs to CDC and NIH with the Parasitology lab
  • The hourly rate for this position is approximately $20/hour, and the hours may go up to or beyond 40 hours/week. This is a sessional position.


 

Requirements include:

  • Resident of New York City or greater New York City region (with ability to commute to the Bronx)
  • Ideally at least a one-year commitment
  • Desire to pursue further education/career in healthcare
