Sophomore or Junior Internship – Summer

Paid Internship

Program Calendar: May 13, 2024 – August 16, 2024

Program Length: (8) weeks total, or 320 hours of full-time engagement. Intern schedules his/her own internship program, based on (8) weeks of program attendance and participation. Program weeks are full-time, Monday through Friday sessions, totaling (40) hours of program time per week. Intern may take time off for vacation or other approved absence, provided that (8) 40-hour weeks are completed by close of program calendar. Internship credit given only for completion of full (320) hours of program time.

Internship Prerequisites:

  1. Internship candidates must have successfully completed their sophomore or junior year of university/college studies, and are returning to school for their junior or senior year to qualify for this internship.
  2. Internship candidates must be enrolled in related degree programs, such as engineering, landscape architecture, GIS, etc.
  3. Commitment to living and working in the Pittsburgh area upon graduation from degree program.
  4. Possess and provide self-transportation to/from Gateway office and required project sites.
  5. Demonstrate the desire to grow personally and professionally.

Gateway Internships

Internships at Gateway are designed to provide the intern with practical industry training and real-project exposure through experiential learning. Sophomore and Junior Interns spend their time equally divided between expert-led developmental training sessions and joining real project teams to develop and deliver solutions to Gateway clients.

Responsibilities

Developmental Training

  • Environmental Health & Safety training with tiered certification
  • Design Technology training
  • Site Design training
  • Project Management training
  • Design & Construction Learning sessions in field
  • Plan/Spec Review
  • Maintain your assigned workstation in office

Client Project Work

  • Work directly on real client projects as directed by Project Manager
  • Work cooperatively with project team engineers, landscape architects, and other project required specialists
  • Travel to and participate in project site visits as necessary (Local travel only)
  • Work in CADD and develop basic knowledge of its function and application to project work
  • Develop plans and project specifications as directed
