Summer Internship: Landscape and Horticulture
Position Overview:
The Albuquerque New Mexico Temple is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic summer intern to join our team. This paid internship provides a unique opportunity for students in the fields of plant systems, landscape design, and horticulture to gain practical experience in a serene and culturally significant environment. Internship duration flexible based on education schedule (8-16 weeks).
Responsibilities:
Irrigation Systems: Collaborate with our experienced team to learn about and assist in the maintenance and operation of the temple’s irrigation systems. Gain hands-on experience in system design, troubleshooting, and water conservation practices.
Turf grass Maintenance: Work alongside our grounds keeping staff to maintain the lush green lawns surrounding the temple. Learn about turf grass species, mowing techniques, fertilization, and pest management.
Drought-Tolerant Design: Participate in the planning and implementation of drought-tolerant landscaping features. Explore native plant species that thrive in the New Mexico climate and contribute to sustainable design practices.
Landscape Enhancement: Contribute to ongoing landscape improvement projects. Assist in planting, pruning, and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Learn about soil health, fertilization, and proper planting techniques.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment: Currently enrolled in a degree program related to plant systems, landscape design, or horticulture.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with plant identification, tree care, and landscape design principles.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for sustainable landscaping.
