Hydrologist/Meteorologist
The Northwest River Forecast Center is one of 13 National Weather Service hydrologic centers in the United States. This office specializes in flood and water resource forecasting, river modeling, and hydrologic system development. It works with water management agencies to provide the best possible operations of the Columbia reservoir systems. The center is very active in recreational and navigational hydrological forecasting.
Candidates can have a background in either Hydrology or Meteorology. In the position you will perform the following duties:
- Serve as a functional bridge between river forecast centers and national centers and all operations within the servicing area.
- Develop and improve hydro-meteorological or hydrologic techniques with the goal of improving forecast accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Conduct analysis and assimilation of real-time hydrometeorological or hydrologic data using operational hydro-meteorological expertise in conjunction with advanced processing techniques, data sources, and equipment.
- Exercise expertise in assimilation and quality control of hydro-meteorological or hydrologic forecasts for input to operational forecast system.
The duties are at the full GS-12 performance level and the GS-05/07/09/11 is the developmental grades level leading to such performance.
