Civil Staff Engineer

S&ME is seeking an individual with a passion for Civil Engineering. If you are eager to contribute and make an impact early in your career, then come join our Civil-Geo-Environmental team in Columbus, Ohio as a Civil Staff Engineer and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.


 

What You Will Do:

As a Civil Staff Engineer, you will have the opportunity to kickstart your career in civil engineering by working alongside seasoned professionals on diverse geotechnical and water resources projects. Under the mentorship of licensed engineers, you'll play a pivotal role in the development of essential infrastructure such as landfills, reservoirs, dams, and more. This role offers hands-on experience in various facets of civil engineering, allowing you to hone your skills and make meaningful contributions to the field.

  • Development of site grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and design of retaining walls, culverts, spillways, and channels.
  • Development of conceptual designs, engineering analysis of design alternatives, drawing/detail preparation, construction cost estimating, and specification development.
  • Conduct construction site inspections, proposal and report preparation, and communication with vendors, and internal and external clients.


 

Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, geotechnical engineering or related field
  • You have 0-3 years of relevant experience
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office and ability to learn commercial software applications
  • You have an Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification, a plus
  • You have experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation, a plus
  • You have GIS experience, a plus


 

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town (may include overnight) for assignments as necessary.
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary.
