Technical Writing Intern

The Technical Writing Intern is responsible for generating innovative ideas for content while working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. The intern will research products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented and easily understood by a broad audience. The desired candidate will have prior experience with Technical Writing, preferably working in an IT space. Specific experience and responsibilities will include providing Quality Technical Documentation for complex systems.

This intern will be based in our Lincolnshire office ​June 3rd-August 9th. 

Responsibilities:

  • Documenting business processes and system functionalities in the clearest and most logical way to present information for greatest reader comprehension.
  • Work closely with knowledge management framework and life cycle.
  • Generate innovative ideas for content and workflow solutions.
  • Meet with subject-matter experts to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed.
  • Analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedure, and form documentation.
  • Review and/or copy/edit content developed by other members of the team.
  • Assist with the standardization of the documentation process and templates and lead junior technical writers

Qualifications:

  • Some experience in developing structured process flows and procedures, specifications, test plans, implementation guides as well as standard operating procedures, quick start guides, and training materials
  • Excellent communication skills -- always addressing the needs of the audience at hand in a clear, concise, and correct manner and ensuring transparency among team members
  • Good knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as well as Agile.
  • Fluency in technical and common office software (Visio, Word, SharePoint, Jira, etc.)
  • Ability to pay attention to details
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and build on current skills
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Ability to multi-task and be a self-starter
  • Ability to check all technical material for consistency and accuracy
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills (oral and written) to partner technically with Application Architects, Development, QA/Testing organizations and Business teams
  • Nice to have working knowledge of Agile, Iterative development process and methodologies is essential
  • Strong problem-solving skills including ability to disseminate complex ideas in a simplified fashion
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
