Associate Teacher

Capital Area Head Start is seeking full time Associate Teachers to join our mission in providing a comprehensive child development program designed to give children a head start in life, empowering parents and strengthening families. The Associate Teacher works with inclusive education and support teams to create and implement lesson plans and daily routines that promote growth and learning for every child. This position ensures child safety, provides education and resources to families and maintains the high quality educational services provided by Capital Area Head Start.

Position Details:

  • $16.22 per hour, may increase based on education and/or experience
  • Salaried, Non Exempt position; Standard biweekly salary paid throughout the entire year, including summer months
  • Hours between 7:30AM and 4:30PM based on assigned center

Minimum Educational Requirements: (One of the following)

  • High school diploma or equivalent and Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
  • Ability to complete a CDA credential program and obtain credential within two years of hire
  • Actively enrolled (minimum of 9 credits per year) in a program leading to a related degree

Minimum Requirements:

  • Basic computer skills, ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and learn web based systems
  • Ability to travel to home visits, training, and other locations
  • Successful completion of pre-employment process, including Criminal History, Child Abuse and FBI clearances

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associates degree or coursework in early childhood education
  • Experience working with young children
  • Bi/multi-lingual 
  • Participation in Head Start or Early Head Start
