RESPONSIBILITIES:
Internship activities may include, but are not limited to, the following proposed projects:

  • Distribution Engineering and Asset Management (Electrical Preferred): Assists in standards creation and clean-up for distribution system improvements. These activities may include modeling existing structures for strength and clearance calculations to define standards that meet requirements in accordance with the National Electrical Safety Code. Additional tasks may also include staking, interconnect reviews, field visits for map clean up and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Transmission Structural Engineering (Civil Preferred): Assist engineering staff on high voltage transmission projects, which may include developing load trees, drafting, site visits, and as-built documentation. Additional tasks may include developing material lists, bid units, estimates, and other construction documents.
  • Meter Engineer (Electrical Preferred): Assist engineering staff in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting high accuracy energy measurement systems. Specific tasks may include engineering work related to; communication systems, NIST traceable accuracy testing, department standards development, and management of advanced metering infrastructure software and data.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with an expected graduation date between December 2024 and June 2026.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as occasional travel may be required.
  • Candidates may be subject to assessment of skills, job match, or aptitude.

DETAILS & DURATION OF INTERNSHIP:

  • This position will report in person.  The reporting location for these internships may be Duluth, MN; Little Falls, MN; and/or Eveleth, MN.
  • This role is expected to begin June 2024.
  • The internship will be full time during summer with the possibility of extending into the academic terms up until graduation.
  • ALLETE will comply with college requirements.
  • Hours and duration are subject to change based on company needs.
