ENGINEERING SUMMER HELP
Engineering Technician, Assistant to the City Engineer and/or City Engineer
FUNCTION OF JOB
Performs basic sub-professional engineering task to include surveying, Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting, or Geographical Information Systems (GIS), construction inspection and related calculation, assists citizens.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains and monitors surveying, field equipment and office equipment.
- Performs assigned duties on survey crew may act as Party Chief in the Party Chief absence.
- Assist Citizens making inquires.
- Locate sanitary sewers, storm sewer, waterlines and right-of-way in the office and in the field
- Oversees construction projects to insure they meet City requirements. Keeps written notes of construction progress and reviews pay estimates for quantities.
- Produces Engineering drawings and makes modifications to drawings using CAD or hand methods as required.
- Uses mathematical knowledge to perform basic engineering calculation and functions.
- Performs clerical duties as directed.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others and to have knowledge of and compliance with OSHA regulations connected with job responsibilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND GIVEN
Performs duties, as required, with instruction from Engineering Technician, Assistant to the City Engineer and/or City Engineer.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or GED.
CAD course work and/or CAD experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint or approved equal.
Ability to read engineering and architectural drawings.
Knowledge and /or experience of public works construction
Good physical condition and ability to work outside for extended periods of time under adverse conditions.
Ability to lift and carry 45 lbs.
Good visual acuity.
Posses a valid Ohio Driver’s License
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
College courses in civil engineering, surveying, AutoCAD and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
Technical school courses in CAD.
