Museum Intern

The Siouxland Heritage Museums is a joint county-city museum system which includes the Old Courthouse Museum, Pettigrew Museum, and the Irene Hall Museum Resource Center. The Old Courthouse Museum is the former Minnehaha County Courthouse which opened in 1890 at Sixth Street and Main Avenue. The 1889 Pettigrew Home and its later museum gallery additions are located on the corner of Eighth Street and Duluth Avenue. Both buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. The organization is committed to the ideal that museums are learning institutions which collect, preserve, interpret and exhibit collections of regional significance.

The summer internship is anticipated to begin in late May 2024 and end in mid-August 2024.

SALARY: $15.50 Hourly

How You Will Make an Impact

The Siouxland Heritage Museums has established an internship program to provide college students or recent graduates with practical experience working in the museum field. This internship is an introduction to museum work and offers the opportunity to work with and learn from museum professionals in collections management, exhibits management, and educational programming. 

What You Need to Succeed in this Role

Must be currently enrolled, or a recent graduate of, a degree program in the areas of history, education, art, or museum studies. Selected applicants will work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
