What is the International Trade Administration (ITA): ITA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce with a mission to create prosperity by strengthening the international competitiveness of U.S. industry, promoting trade and investment, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements. Our trade experts and professional staff - approximately 2,200 employees - are positioned in more than 100 U.S. cities and 81 international markets.

Job Description: ITA works with overseas stakeholders to gather early information about upcoming healthcare projects and take steps toward commercial “wins.” ITA leverages its partnerships to find commercial opportunities for U.S. companies in the healthcare industry, which include healthcare services.

Through its connections with industry, ITA helps other economies find products and services solutions that strengthen healthcare ecosystems. Building physical and digital infrastructure and providing technologies that help patients connect to quality healthcare are critical to international markets. With industry experts within Industry & Analysis (I&A) and Global Market’s (GM) U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service (CS), ITA is a conduit for maximizing the impact of the U.S. healthcare industry’s footprint among U.S. partner countries and regions. In this role, interns will collaborate closely with domestic and international stakeholders to identify and capitalize on emerging commercial opportunities, driving success for U.S. companies in the global healthcare market.

Duties:

  • Find, record, and disseminate critical trade leads in conjunction with CS Posts, the GM Healthcare Team, and the I&A Office of Health Industries.
  • Working together with U.S. Embassies and relevant US Government agencies, such as the State Department, HHS and CDC.
  • Work with GM/CS officers and Locally Engaged Staff to identify global project contacts and collect valuable market information.
  • Follow up on potential trade leads with CS Posts and I&A, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Provide support to GM and I&A efforts along with other relevant U.S. agencies, U.S. companies, and foreign governments.
  • Assist in determining the appropriateness of the market intelligence collected for U.S. industry and help GM/I&A engage in targeted virtual roadshows (e.g., how industry can introduce solutions to foreign markets), trade missions (mini-missions; reverse visits; and executive-lead trade missions).
  • Learn, collaborate, and discover new commercial opportunities and develop subject matter expertise with the I&A team.

Oversight/Reporting: GM will oversee the interns on a day-to-day basis. I&A will train and help manage intern objectives and programs and assist GM with related activities.

Onboarding Process: Students selected for this internship opportunity will undergo an investigation process that, once successfully completed, will allow for their fingerprinting. Interns that will work in-person in HCHB will require a PIV badge.
