Youth Empowerment Steward (YES) - Prince William Forest Park Digital Media Intern

Stipend: $600/week ($15/hr)
Housing Stipend: $100/week (with on-site housing available)

Prince William Forest Park Digital Media Intern:
Stewards Individual Placements provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.  YES interns focus on barriers to entry for individuals with disabilities in the outdoor work and recreation spaces.  Stewards, in partnership with Prince William Forest Park, are seeking a YES intern who will assist park staff in the audio description of the historic 1930s era park film as well as the creation of a fully accessible new park film about Prince William Forest Park.

The mission of Prince William Forest Park is to interpret and educate the public about the diverse array of natural resources within the Piedmont forest as well as the cultural resources associated with the park’s legacy as the model for the New Deal-era recreational demonstration area program. 

Prince William Forest Park is working on the accessibility of park media (i.e. photos, videos, brochures, maps, and other documents). Our historic park film was created in the 1930s and needs to be updated with audio-description. The YES member will work with park staff to record audio descriptions as well as film video and edit old and new video clips to support the creation of a new park film.  The YES member will also travel park trails with a camera to update the park’s photo and video library and work with staff to complete the audio description of the park UniGrid brochure.

Opportunities are also available for the YES member to work with park interpretation staff on the presentation of interpretive programs and events.

 

 

Duties Include: 

·       Audio-Describe Park Video “The Human Crop” and other short films for the park’s website

·       Audio-Describe various park brochures and maps

·       Record audio descriptions for park videos, brochures, maps, and other digital media resources

·       Create corresponding transcripts of the various video, brochures, maps, and other digital media audio descriptions

·       Work with park staff on the creation of a new accessibility video for the park

·       Capture and film interviews for videos and digital media content

·       Take photos and videos of park landscapes

·       Add new content to the park’s website

Required Skills

Requirements:

·       Attend bi-weekly YES cohort meetings (online via Teams meetings) to collaborate with other YES interns, attend professional development presentations, and give a capstone presentation on your YES Internship project(s).

·       To Be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident

·       To be between the ages of 21-30, or a Veteran up to the age of 35

·       Have a connection with the disability community

·       1 year of college or equivalent experience

·       Adaptability and capacity to work in a fluid environment

·       Ability to communicate and collaborate in a variety of settings

·       Interest in history, education, and/or interpretation

·       Drive to learn and experience new things!

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in video editing or video creation
