Housing Data & Research Intern

Metro Nashville’s Housing Division is seeking a Housing Data & Research Intern for Summer 2024. Successful interns will have a strong background in data collection and analysis with an interest in advancing housing security. The Housing Intern will help support key initiatives including further developing the affordable housing inventory and our public-facing dashboard. The intern will be responsible for compiling, cleaning up, and organizing data for visualization. The Housing Division will support the professional development and growth of the Housing Data & Research Intern through individual guidance and support. The intern can expect to strengthen their data management and research skills, learn more about the policy and program development process, and gain insights into specific affordable housing issues in Metro Nashville. Experience with GIS is encouraged though not required. 

Graduate and undergraduate students are welcome. Summer interns will be paid hourly at a rate of $19.08 an hour. Interns may not work more than 40 hours a week. Flexible scheduling and hybrid work opportunities are available. Please note, applicants are required to be available in person in Nashville for the duration of the internship.

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Support data entry and data analysis 
  • Identify and correct data entry errors
  • Coordinate with partners to compile data
  • Assist in developing a framework for collecting, storing, and presenting relevant information and data 
  • Perform research related to projects/programs and other key issues in the division 
  • Participate in conference calls and meetings 

Qualifications: 

The successful applicant must possess: 

  • Proven organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Data analysis skills 
  • Flexibility, initiative, and a collaborative spirit 
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with coworkers and partners 
  • High proficiency in Excel
  • Proficiency in GIS is encouraged 
  • Commitment to public service and passion for using skills to advance the common good 
  • An interest in developing further knowledge around housing issues
