Summer Engineering Intern: Zero Waste to Landfill

Join Whirlpool Corporation’s Tulsa Operations for a transformative summer internship as part of our Manufacturing Leadership Development Program (MLDP). We are in search of a proactive and environmentally-conscious Engineering Intern to spearhead the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) project. Guided by a Senior Environmental Engineer, this initiative is aimed at minimizing waste and promoting sustainability within our manufacturing processes.

Project Overview:

  • Name: Zero Waste to Landfill
  • Objectives:
    • Oversee Waste Management administration to align with sustainability goals.
    • Undertake Savings Projects focusing on waste management.
    • Achieve and maintain the Zero Waste To Landfill Key Performance Indicator (KPI).
    • Understand and apply the basics of the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Environmental Pillar.

Key Experiences & Skills Gained:

  • Collaborate with Environment, Workplace Organization, Logistics & Customer Service, and People Development teams to enact sustainable changes.
  • Develop and execute projects aimed at reducing waste management costs and achieving the ZWTL KPI.

Expected Outcomes / Key Deliverables:

  • Conduct benchmarking activities for waste management in the scrap area to identify and implement cost reduction strategies.
  • Implement Kaizen methodologies to enhance waste stream management.

Skills Needed / Preferred:

  • Strong emphasis on TEAMWORK to collaboratively engage in projects with stakeholders at all levels.
  • An ability to LISTEN and ask insightful questions.
  • ACCOUNTABILITY & INTEGRITY in all actions, ensuring commitments are fulfilled.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Engineering or Environmental Science program.
  • Passionate about sustainability and environmental conservation.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and adapt to changing project needs.
