YMCA Youth Sports Intern

Job Summary: The YMCA focuses on developing the whole child.  We work on the fundamentals of the sports and incorporate our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all of our youth programs. This position will play an integral role in assisting the youth development director with the development, organization, implementation, teaching, and evaluation of youth sports programming at the Union County Family YMCA. 

Requirements/Qualification:  

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, working towards a degree in sports management, physical education, business or similar path preferred.
  • Knowledge of Sports. Specifically baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football and soccer would be a benefit.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check and complete CPR and First Aid training.
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings throughout the summer.

Principle Activities:  

  • Learn all essential information about the various sports programs offered and uphold the values of the YMCA.
  • Under the direction of the Youth Development Director the Youth Sports intern will assist in supervising YMCA youth summer sport leagues and camps.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and manage coaches, volunteers, parents, refs and players.
  • Manage equipment and facilities for games, practices and camps, as well as assist with set up and break down of equipment prior to and at the conclusion of games, practices and camps.
  • Assist Youth Development Director with coaching youth sports programs.
  • Follow all YMCA’s policies and procedures.  
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and serve as a leader to the program’s youth. 
  • Assist with department special events and tasks as needed.
  • Assume any other duties directed by the CEO and/or Youth Development Director.
