Health & Safety Intern

Summary

The intern will work closely with the Health & Safety department and participate in regular meetings and field activities centered around occupational and environmental safety practices for the organization. During the course of the internship, the intern will be assigned a project centered on safety communication and have an opportunity to receive feedback from the leadership team. The intern will also support the team with safety data transcription to an updated software.

What You’ll Do

· Conduct site inspections and safety interviews with employees in both stores and distribution centers

· Use information from inspections and interviews to create a short, comprehensive safety program on a chosen topic, e.g., hazard communication, personal protective equipment, crisis management

· Manage independent study and progress pertaining to assigned safety project

· Conduct a field test for the chosen safety program topic to determine program efficacy

· Assist with in-office safety data transcription and safety communication material development

· Support with conducting safety research using accredited websites, e.g., OSHA, ADA, etc.

What You’ll Need

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

· Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail

· Ability to work independently or in a team within an open office environment

· Strong research and analytical skills

· Must be a self-motivated individual

· Ability to commit to a full-time work schedule (40 hours per week)

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

 

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

· Pursuing degrees in Occupational Health & Safety, Communications, Human Resources, Business or similar at an accredited University

· Must be a rising Junior or Senior with a 3.0 or higher grade point average

 

Physical Job Requirements

· Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods of time between in-office desk work and in-field assignments

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

 

Travel Requirements

· US Driver’s license preferred, travel could be required up to 25% of the time around the DMV area stores and warehouses

Compensation of $20 per hour
