GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The State Auditor's Office, a legislative agency that serves as the independent auditor for Texas state government, is seeking qualified individuals to intern in a temporary position from June to August 2024. 

Reporting. Under the supervision of the Managing Report Editor, an intern performs work that introduces the student to entry-level editorial work involving laying out, indexing, and revising content of written and digital materials in preparation for final publication. 

Training. Under the supervision of the the Professional Development Manager, an intern performs work that introduces the student to entry-level training and development work involving coordinating and organizing training sessions. Detailed instructions regarding specific duties are provided at the beginning of the assignment. Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy throughout the internship.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Copyediting/proofreading of drafted report section (final proofread).

Proofreading and formatting various letters and other communication with auditees.

Assisting with conceptualizing and reviewing report graphics.

Assists in scheduling and setting up the course catalog for the next fiscal year.

Responds to training participant queries.

Organizes and prepares materials and supplies for the annual audit conference. 

Assists with setting up and arranging training rooms and providing support for instructors and participants during training.

Enters data into a training and development database.

Performs related duties as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Must be currently enrolled in one of the following: (1) undergraduate degree program in business administration, communications, education, English, human resources, journalism or a related field; OR (2) graduate degree program in business administration, communications, education, English, human resources, journalism or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar; techniques and methods of planning, organizing, and writing various types of materials.
