Junior Formulation Chemist

We seek a Junior Formulation Chemist for a traveling, customer-facing role with our client in St. Louis, Missouri.

Responsibilities include formulating new products, color matching, and improving existing products.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Communicates with co-associates, customers, and suppliers on project-related matters
  • 90-95% Travel to clients by car.
  • Establishes schedules and logs lab requests and projects assigned in areas of responsibility
  • Participates in the completion of assigned lab requests and projects
  • Coordinates work efforts with other chemists and technicians in setting priorities and accomplishing departmental objects as a team
  • Assists with developing new colors and products for customers, and performs qualifications testing of developed products
  • Performs all technical service functions for customers
  • Assist production scale-up and problem analysis
  • Assist with writing reports and keeping records for the company and customers
  • Maintain good practices of safety and housekeeping procedures
  • Contributes to efforts for continuous improvement and reduction of costs/waste
  • Completes all other tasks, assignments, or functions as assigned and/or required
  • Build good relationships with key customer contacts.
  • Conduct and communicate day-to-day operations and projects at the assigned account(s).
  • With supervisory input effectively communicate problems, issues, and concerns to USP Lab Team, QA, and production personnel.
  • With supervisory and USP Lab Team input develop customer application line correlation.
  • Monitor and track color, inventory, usage rates, online performance, and appearance online at customer site(s).
  • Communicate color adjustments completed on batches and samples to appropriate USP Lab Team personnel.
  • With supervisory input analyze process problems and use problem-solving skills to determine root cause and implement preventative action.
  • Assume a project support role to communicate problems to the Lab Team.
  • With supervisory input coordinate project work, develop schedules, and facilitate internal team meetings.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

REQUIRED: B.S. in Science or Technical Sciences background desired.

ALTERNATIVE: Industry-related experience.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Qualified candidates should possess an undergraduate degree in Chemistry or Science related degree.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to handle frequent interruptions, and maintain a calm demeanor when confronted with conflict.
  • Related experience is not required, however, candidates with some experience within the paint, coating, or chemical industry will be given preference

  • 3-5 yrs. previous coatings experience
  • Previous customer exposure
  • Color matching skills
  • Coatings application experience
  • Thorough knowledge of USP manufacturing process and paperwork flow.
  • Project Management experience
  • Negotiating skills
  • Haz-Mat training
