Utility Technology Systems Internship (Summer 2024)

We are seeking students who are eager to learn about the relationships between work, asset and field management business processes and technology. Applicants should be comfortable working independently, self-motivated, and interested in learning about electrical and natural gas utilities. 

Projects within the Utility Technology Systems team focus on the connection of technology to people and processes. Utility Technology Systems Interns will learn utility system applications and data structures relating to customer service, field service, engineering, work and asset management, GIS asset mapping, line locating, and outage management. In this internship, you will help BHE mature its asset information strategy. 

These projects are designed to enhance your communication and teamwork skills, as you will be collaborating with individuals across all functions in our organization. You will work alongside professionals in your field, gaining in-depth knowledge about the energy industry and your chosen field of expertise. You will apply what you have learned in school to impactful projects within a publicly traded, multi-state utility and energy company. PAY:   $17.00 per hour (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

LOCATION: Rapid City, SD

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Research and comprehend industry standards related to asset information, strategy, standards, and data management.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop clear and concise narratives aligning with industry standards.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation for work and asset management processes.
  • Perform fit-gap analysis of processes and technology, specifically to inform consolidation efforts of legacy custom applications into enterprise platform systems.
  • Assess, analyze, and interpret complex technical information to support the development of standardized documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, presenting findings and recommendations related to industry standards and work and asset management practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and present a synopsis of experience with the Company at the end of the internship.
  • Perform job-shadowing with system end-users.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College junior or above working towards a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management or organizational leadership.  If you are a recent graduate, you must be winthin  year of your graduation date.
  • Technical writing coursework strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare and give presentations to small audiences.
  • Attention to detail required.
  • Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products, including Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business information.
  • Knowledge of, but not limited to, Hitachi Asset Suite, SalesForce Field Service, and/or Trimble eBuilder.

Intern Relocation Adjustment Allowance of $1,000.00 is offered for the purpose of assisting with various expenses associated with your relocation for the internship (less applicable taxes and based on eligibility).
