CO-OP/INTERN MSD Compliance Services (COMMERCIAL WASTE GROUP)

CO-OP LEARNING MISSION

To establish a partnership with colleges and universities, exposing as many students as possible to employment opportunities in the Wastewater Industry and to help them become experienced professionals in the next generation workforce.

CO-OP LEARNING PURPOSE

To attract and cultivate bright and energetic college students and maintain ongoing partnerships with colleges and universities.  It is our goal to expose these students to our Industrial Customers as well as career opportunities in water resource management and the environmental sciences.  The Co-op program also serves as a recruitment tool to assist the Compliance Services Division (CSD) Industrial Waste Group in hiring full-time personnel.

CO-OP LEARNING OVERVIEW 

Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and eager to gain hands-on experience in managing industrial waste? Join us as a Co-op student with the Commercial Waste Group and embark on a journey of learning and professional growth.

As a Co-op student, you'll have the unique opportunity to work closely with our team, conducting inspections of industrial facilities in the Greater Cincinnati area. Dive deep into understanding how industrial waste is managed on a large scale basis while forging valuable connections with key industry players. You'll witness firsthand how local government collaborates with industries to safeguard the environment.

Throughout your Co-op experience, you'll be involved in a variety of impactful projects, including managing databases of Industrial Users within the District, conducting Annual and Focused inspections, and mastering basic report writing. You may even have the chance to conduct sampling under the guidance of experienced staff.

Under the mentorship of Environmental Safety Specialists or Industrial Investigators, you'll receive personalized guidance as you navigate through your tasks and projects. Our goal is to provide you with a dynamic learning environment that complements your classroom education, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to special projects and initiatives, gaining exposure to a wide range of tasks performed by the Commercial Waste Group. This Co-op experience is designed to not only reinforce your existing skills but also to nurture new talents, setting you up for success in your future career endeavors.

CO-OP LEARNING EXPECTATIONS                 

The Co-op students will be assigned to work with the Commercial Waste group Investigators, Environmental Safety Specialists, or Pretreatment Specialists. They will be performing a variety of functions - combining databases, identifying any shortcomings in the programs, brainstorming solutions and auditing records.  This will involve office work and may involve field work.  The co-op student will be trained on the iPACs database, CagisDocs system, and GIS system.
