Fundraising Volunteer
This position is a great opportunity for those who want to gain experience in fundraising and get an insight into the management of an NGO. You will work under the supervision of the Fundraising Manager and Coordinator, and tasks include preparing fundraising materials, collaborating with the social media team, and helping to organise and run various fundraising events.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute new, innovative ideas in the field of fundraising. This is a really key role because we need to be financially viable in order to ensure that OCN, our projects, and the work that we do in the communities, can continue. You will work together with our field staff management team and receive ongoing support and guidance throughout your placement whilst also learning and practising new skills.
This role does not require many hours of work per week, so it is possible to combine the role with another volunteering role, such as Marketing Volunteer or Multi-Project Volunteer. This will allow you to top up your hours and gain experience in more than one field.
The position is a fantastic opportunity for students undertaking a placement year or for those seeking entry-level work experience after graduation.
For students, all volunteer positions are available as internships, which is ideal for students looking to complete a year in industry/placement abroad. In this case, you will receive an extra level of mentorship and all appropriate communication with your academic institution to ensure compliance with internship placement requirements.
Responsibilities
Prepare fundraising documents and other support materials, e.g. flyers, texts for website or social media.
Assist with the organisation of the monthly project fundraiser.
Assist in the running of one-off fundraising events (previously events have included a Fun Run, a football tournament, a music night)
Develop a working understanding of data protection and relevant privacy regulations.
Pursue efforts to maintain a positive public image, including regular event promotion.

Networking skills and excellent communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills.
*If you want to improve your Spanish, we can arrange Spanish classes for you in advance or during your stay.
Time commitment
Placements can last from 1-12 months, giving you the flexibility to choose between spending a full year/academic year with us, just one semester, or even a summer internship. This makes our opportunities ideal for students looking to gain professional experience during a year in industry or language-based placement abroad.
Long-term volunteers are preferred, so you have a chance to really get to know the community and get comfortable in your role.
Generally, 20-25 hours per week, Mon-Fri
A typical day in the role
There is a lot of variety in this role, with a real mix of hands-on fundraising activities and organisational/administrative work. You will be based in the OCN office with the rest of the team, working particularly closely with our Fundraising and Programs Manager and Marketing team. You will take part in Fundraising Team Meetings to strategize and set priorities with the managers, and to decide on your task allocation for the week. Here you have a chance to contribute your own experiences or help give us new ideas on how to make our fundraising efforts as productive and innovative as possible.
Most working hours will be office-based, applying for grants, building relationships with donors, and organising fundraising activities. However, there may be some unsociable hours required for the implementation of said fundraising activities, for example, trivia nights or sponsored sports events on evenings and weekends.
After work, there is plenty of time to catch one of Huanchaco’s world-famous sunsets from the tranquillity of the beach, or indeed from a surfboard. Then there are various options to fill your evening, socializing with local and other volunteers, sampling the famous Peruvian cuisine, attending talks and cultural events, music, dance, theatre, movies- the list is endless.
