Description of Position:

Part-time teaching responsibility involves instruction of introductory Human Geography, World Regional Geography, Physical Geography Lecture and Physical Geography Laboratory, Introductory Geospatial courses - Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS, and Remote Sensing (RS).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;

2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;

3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;

4. meeting with students outside of class;

5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;

7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;

8. maintaining accurate academic records;

9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

Master’s in Geography

Bachelor’s in Geography AND Master’s in Geology, History, Meteorology or Oceanography

or the equivalent

Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience of teaching Global Positioning System (GPS) course including hands-on GPS data collection.

AND/OR

• Experience of teaching Remote Sensing introductory course including image processing software.

• Experience of teaching Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses with expertise in advanced geoprocessing techniques and ESRI GIS software.

• Experience of curriculum design in an adult learning environment.

• Experience with Canvas Learning Management System.

• Effective oral and written communication skills.
