Assistant Engineer - Electrical
nAssistant Engineer – Electrical positions administer and inspect the construction of electrical upgrade projects, traffic signals, and street lighting to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements; perform project site visits; update project files; prepare sketches, layouts, material lists, and cost estimates; perform engineering calculations; utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) applications; perform construction material evaluation/testing; check building plans for conformance to applicable electrical regulations and calculate electrical adequacy; and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
- Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) Certificate issued from a state licensing board.
- Registration as a Professional Electrical or Control System Engineer with a state licensing board.
NOTE:
- Additional qualifying professional electrical engineering experience may be substituted for education lacking on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of full-time professional electrical engineering experience in at least TWO of the following primary job functions:
- Energy management.
- Building, construction, energy, or control systems design and preparation of design specifications.
- Managing electrical, energy, or control systems engineering projects to design public works projects, industrial or commercial systems, and/or wastewater treatment systems.
- Field engineering to inspect and solve complex electrical engineering or public works project problems.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
- Proficiency in the review of public utility improvement plans.
- Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
- Computer experience (e.g., Word, Excel).
