Special Education Director at Residential Camp

Ramapo for Children is seeking a Reading and Technology Center Director for our residential camp program, Camp Ramapo, that serves young people with disabilities, mental health challenges, and histories of trauma and stress. The ideal candidate has experience facilitating programming for individuals in a special education or camp setting, as well as experience supervising staff. The director is responsible for supervising a team of eight staff, and ensuring the delivery of engaging and accessible reading and technology-based programs to children, teens, and young adults with a wide range of needs, abilities, and backgrounds. 

This is a residential position that runs from mid June-mid August. 
 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the training of program team members during orientation.
  • Design, maintain, and monitor structures that encourage camper engagement, participation, and positive behavior.
  • Support team members in creating and facilitating learning, reading, and technology based lessons that meet the needs, abilities, and interests of each camper group.
  • Ensure campers are appropriately engaged during activity periods, adjusting lessons and structures as needed.
  • Manage all technology by keeping games up to date, keeping track of all password and login information, and ensuring technology is secure in terms of charging, storage and usage.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff members through the use of ongoing feedback and performance evaluations in order to encourage staff members’ personal and professional growth.
  • Participate as a member of the camp leadership staff team to deliver and supervise programs, special events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Experience facilitating programming in a special education or camp setting preferred. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Special Education, or related field. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team of staff.
  • Willingness to work in an active, outdoor residential camp environment.
