GIS Summer Internship

Position Summary 

The Chugach National Forest GIS Team is seeking an enthusiastic candidate for a summer internship. This position will provide GIS data management support for the special uses program area of the Chugach National Forest. Duties will include compiling, creating, and updating geospatial data layers, metadata, and attribute information for features in the ArcGIS mapping platform, while also developing cartographic products, such as maps, dashboards, and web applications in the ArcGIS Online environment.

 

Schedule 

June 3, 2024 - November 18, 2024

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

The work schedule will be full-time. Most job duties are computer-based and will be performed in the Chugach National Forest Supervisors Office in Anchorage, Alaska.;
Duties will include compiling, creating, and updating geospatial data layers, metadata, and attribute information for features in the ArcGIS mapping platform, while also developing cartographic products, such as maps, dashboards, and web applications in the ArcGIS Online environment.;

 

Marginal Duties 

 

 

Required Qualifications 

On-the-job training will be provided, but a basic working knowledge of ArcGIS and AGOL are strongly desired. Candidates should be well-organized and have a keen eye for detail. The applicant must be coachable and self-driven and must be able to provide high-quality customer service and geospatial support to various resource specialists and program areas.

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

Interns must have or be able to arrange their own housing in or near Anchorage, AK.

 

Compensation  

$1,500 - travel/training allowance; $400 - weekly living allowance; $1,000 - monthly housing allowance; $2,000 - duty-related reimbursable expenses for TBD training/conference opportunities; Eligible for AmeriCorps Award of $3,447.50 (must complete 900 hours);

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
