Art Program Supervisor at Residential Special Needs Camp

Ramapo for Children is seeking an Art Program Supervisor for our residential camp program, Camp Ramapo, that serves young people with social, emotional, and learning challenges. The ideal candidate has experience facilitating art programming for individuals in a special education or camp setting, as well as experience supervising staff. The Art Program Supervisor s responsible for supervising a team of eight staff, and ensuring the delivery of engaging and accessible art programs. This is a residential position that runs from early June-mid August.  Housing and meals are provided. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the training of art center team members in areas such as lesson planning, group management, and classroom structure. 
  • Ensure a diverse range of engaging lesson plans are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities and interests of each camp group.
  • Implement structures and routine in order to ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs.
  • Support staff and campers through art activity periods including engaging campers and supporting behavior management
  • Provide guidelines for activities utilizing art center equipment including visuals and written instructions for all safety guidelines.
  • Assist in the management, inventory and care of the physical facilities, equipment and materials in all art center areas.
  • Oversee ordering of supplies in consultation with the Program Director.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff members through the use of ongoing feedback and performance evaluations in order to encourage staff members’  growth.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Experience facilitating art programming in a special education or camp setting preferred. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team of staff.
  • Willingness to work in an active, outdoor residential camp environment.
