Elementary School Teacher at Rosalyn Yalow Charter School

Who We Are:

Rosalyn Yalow Charter school is  non-profit K-5 public charter school whose mission is to eliminate the learning achievement gap for all urban children. We use an engaging and rigorous curriculum to graduate students at or above grade level in literacy and math. Our goal is to develop the whole child, encouraging each young student to excel.

What Makes Us Unique:

We believe all children will learn and thrive in an environment that provides a wide array of learning support to both children and their families. We foster a collaborative learning environment, where we engage children and their families in the education process every step of the way. Because of this, we have a longer school day—9 hours—and integrate academic teaching with arts, music, chess, and fencing throughout the day (no after-school programs). We also have  high-quality curriculum, teaching teams, differentiated instruction, help for at-risk children, and consistent parent involvement.

We believe our students and families are our greatest strength. We serve a diverse population of students that come from all over the Bronx. 95% of parents agree that their child’s race, ethnicity, culture and/or background is valued at Yalow.  38.4% of our students are Multilingual Learners and 46% of our students come from households that speak languages other than English at home. 53.5% of our students are Hispanic/Latinx, 44.5% of our students are African or African American and 1.8% of our students are Asian/ Pacific Islander.

Why Teach at Yalow?

At Yalow, you will be joining a community of teachers and leaders who are deeply committed to the success and wellbeing of all our students.

We have high expectations. All our students expect teachers who deeply engage them in high quality instruction and learning. 90% of teachers agree that student learning focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated skills, so they can communicate in increasingly diverse ways and with diverse audiences.

We authentically partner with students and families. 96% of parents say they feel respected and supported by their child’s teachers and are treated as partners in educating their children and 99% of teachers agree that Yalow makes an effort to reach out to parents to engage them directly in the processes of strengthening student learning.

We are a community. We treat each other with respect and kindness and celebrate one another frequently. We engage in a collaborative teaching model with team teaching and set aside time for collaboration and planning.

We are committed to growth. We ask for and act on feedback. We are consistently looking for opportunities to grow as educators and have regular time set aside for professional development and coaching.
