Neutronics Analysis Internship

Reporting to the Irradiation Experiment Neutronics Analysis manager, you will modify the model for depletion analysis and to get the various quantities needed. This model will help support initial efforts to analyze the current state of the NRAD core. 

  • Familiarization with NRAD Serpent model
  • Modifications to the NRAD core model based on the past power history and the core pin upgrade
  • NRAD Depletion studies and further analysis with experiments
  • Provide a summary report and presentation of work

Your experience level will shape the work and schedule outlined above, allowing for adjustments tailored to your skills. As you delve into the tasks over the summer, there may arise prospects for extending your internship into part-time roles, with potential expansions in scope. Within this role, you'll engage in modeling and simulating the Neutron Radiograph (NRAD) core, employing the Monte Carlo code Serpent. Guided by a mentor from the neutronics analysis department, you'll conduct sensitivity analyses on the core model, offering insights and recommendations to modeling the current core configuration. Your findings will be consolidated into a comprehensive report, and you'll have the opportunity to showcase your results during the intern poster session.

This team works a 9x80 schedule onsite at our Idaho Falls Campus.

Qualifications - External

  • Undergraduate senior or graduate student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying nuclear engineering
  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)
  • Current Resume or CV
  • Unofficial Transcripts (include current and completed degree programs)
  • Current class schedule and number of credits

Compensation and Benefits:

Undergraduate Internships ($25.65/hour - $30.70/hour)

Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($31.75/hour - $34.06/hour)

PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)
