Manufacturing Technical Support Intern (Calibration)

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Technical Support Intern to join our team in San Diego for 3-6 months (Spring, Summer, Fall Semester)

 

This internship offers you a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a Diagnostic Manufacturing environment with exposure to multiple processes including Nucleic Acid Testing and Blood Typing Solutions. Specifically, you will work in the area of Equipment Maintenance and Instrument Calibration where you will gain knowledge of state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and systems. Your responsibilities will include project support for the migration to a new equipment management software.  This software will manage the equipment maintenance and calibration information, procedures, and scheduling for all on-site equipment. This project will include gaining knowledge of all on-site equipment, learning maintenance and calibration procedures, and becoming familiar with the equipment management SAP software.

 

As a Manufacturing Technical Support Intern, you will be working with our Maintenance, Calibration, and Automation Engineering teams. Within this internship you will have an opportunity to gain knowledge in the areas of Metrology and Instrument Calibration, Preventive and Corrective Equipment Maintenance, Planning and Scheduling of Maintenance activities, and Enterprise Resource Planning software (SAP). You will work with multiple functions through daily interaction, meetings, and hands on activities. The goal at the end of the internship will be delivery of an operational maintenance and calibration management system supporting the site.

 

Location: San Diego

Pay: paid internship $18-25 per hour

Hybrid: 100% on-site work in your San Diego office

Workhours/week: full-time during summer semester, full-/part-time during spring and fall semesters

Length: up to 1 year

 

Your primary responsibilities:

  • Receive training on new maintenance and calibration management software (SAP)
  • Enter the manufacturing area to see the equipment running and learn about the manufacturing processes
  • Review existing equipment data exported from current maintenance management system to ensure readiness for migration to new system.
  • Work with calibration team to compile instrument calibration data for entry into SAP
  • Work with maintenance team to enter preventive and corrective equipment maintenance procedures into SAP
  • Create standard operating procedures for new equipment management software

  • Strong ability to demonstrate time management, organization, and prioritizing tasks
  • Ability to work independently on multiple simultaneous projects and be flexible to changing priorities
  • Ability to identify creative solutions and be a team player

 

Education

Recently finished (<6 months) undergraduate degree (associates or bachelors) or degree near completion in applicable technical field

 

Future careers in this field: You can work in our Manufacturing Technical Support Team, which supports our biomanufacturing plant. You either specify in calibration tasks or maintenance of equipment and utilities to assure the manufacturing process. You can also start a career in our Manufacturing Team. With this internship you gain first GMP experince as well as first experience in instrument calibration and troubleshooting – which is beneficial for Manufacturing roles.

The estimated pay scale for the Manufacturing Technical Support Intern role based in San Diego, California is $18-25 per hour. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
