Pool Guard II candidates must apply before taking the performance test. Once applications are approved, candidates will be notified regarding the specific date, time, and location.

About the Position:

Pool Guard II positions oversee the safety of pool patrons by monitoring pool and deck areas to prevent accidents, enforce facility regulations, perform rescues, administer first aid and CPR, and more.

Notes:

• Eligible benefitted employees hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in SDCERS.
• Pool Guard II employees may need knowledge of competitive swimming and water exercise.
• Candidates must pass a performance test.
• Pool Guard II employees are primarily part-time and may work holidays, weekends, and evenings.

Minimum Requirements:

• Age: 16 years or older.
• Certificates: Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED, First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, Water Safety Instructor.

Highly Desirable:

Experience teaching swimming lessons.

Required Documents:

Front and back copies of all required certificates.

Screening Process:

• Application review.
• Performance test: Swim 300 yards in 6 minutes or less, and complete an object retrieval/active victim rescue.
