# HERO Summer Research Internship
Project: Assessing genetic diversity of wild grapes (Vitis sp.) in Blue Ridge Mountains
Description of work:
- Assist field collections manager in sampling wild grapes of Blue Ridge mountains (National and State Forests and Parks of Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina)
- Laboratory work:
- DNA extraction from grape leaves
- DNA quality assessement
- Actively participate in laboratory discussion and meetings (reading/comprehending scientific literature)
(Hands-on training will be provided by the supervisor)
Eligibility/Requirements:
- Undergraduate enrolled in the Herbert College of Agriculture Major.
Desired:
- Highly motivated, self-driven
- Background in biology (plant/animal)
- Excellent writing skills (work needs to be presented in an undergraduate research symposium)
Financial Support:
- $15/hour (upto 133 hours for summer semester)
- Additional support of $500 for research material
- Financial Support for additional work hours (depending on excellent performance) at $15/hour with an opportunity to continue to work on honor's thesis
