Junior Integrated Topside Design (ITD) Engineer

The Integrated Topside Engineering Branch (B53) is seeking a Junior Integrated Topside Design (ITD) Engineer to support its mission. B53 serves as the Engineering Agent for the NAVSEA ITD Technical Warrant Holder (TWH), responsible for executing the Navy’s ITD process. The ITD process is a highly disciplined systems engineering approach used to optimize the operational performance of ship topside systems through technical analysis.

As a Junior ITD Engineer, you will assist in performing comprehensive ITD analyses, including assessment of electromagnetic compatibility, system safety, system location, structural integrity, and operational impacts.

You will provide support in Systems Engineering (SE) services for Integrated Topside Design projects.  Assist in ship checks to determine optimal locations for system installations and document any discrepancies.  Demonstrate a willingness to learn techniques, policies, and best practices in electromagnetics and related engineering disciplines.  Assist in conducting engineering analyses for ITD studies and document results through stakeholder briefings and reports.  Utilize empirical, analytical, and computational electromagnetic (CEM) tools to investigate electromagnetic (EM) issues on Navy ships and platforms.  Learn to interpret and explain analysis results to stakeholders through briefings and reports.  Support the analysis of shipboard topside design for both existing and new ships.  Under the guidance of senior staff, develop knowledge in engineering concepts, electromagnetic effects, and sensor applications for evaluating Navy systems.  Collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and engineers, participating actively in meetings, testing events, and project tasks. Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to balance multiple tasks concurrently.

Qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Systems Engineering. Experience with Electromagnetics preferred. 

Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), Dahlgren, Virginia is one of the ten Divisions of the Naval Surface Warfare Center. It is the Navy’s principal research, development, and test & evaluation laboratory for surface ship combat systems. It performs warfare analysis, research, design, development, systems integration, strategic missile systems support, special and amphibious warfare and fleet engineering services. As one of the lead laboratories for the Navy, its civilian scientists and engineers take on demanding research and development programs
