Risk Manager

Are you looking to further for your career working for the City of St. Paul? Our Office of Human Resources is hiring a Risk Manager. The Office of Human Resources provides comprehensive support to the 16 City of Saint Paul departments and its 3,000 employees. 

Here’s what you can expect to do:

  • Performs highly responsible strategic planning and design work in the administration of a citywide comprehensive risk management program.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, evaluates, oversees, and provides technical direction for workers compensation, tort liability, and city safety programs. 
  • Performs risk management in various types of insurance.
  • Recommends citywide and individual settlements regarding risk management decisions to Administration for approval. 
  • Develops and oversees a loss management program and analyzes funding alternatives and determines appropriate funding approaches for individual and collective risk functions and tort liability. 
  • Negotiates contracts with insurance vendors and healthcare providers directly.
  • Evaluates government regulations, laws, and rules concerning risk, insurance, and workers compensation and their impact to the City.
  • Provides full supervision of three direct reports.

 Position Requirements:

Twelve years of professional experience in one or more of the following: risk management, workers compensation, or insurance management. Experience must also include at least two years of leadership or supervisory experience.

OR

An Associate’s Degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field and ten years of professional experience in one or more of the following: risk management, workers compensation, or insurance management. Experience must also include at least two years of leadership or supervisory experience.

OR

A Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field and eight years of professional experience in one or more of the following: risk management, workers compensation, or insurance management. Experience must also include at least two years of leadership or supervisory experience.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application, resume, and answers to Supplemental Questionnaire. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and questionnaire. You must submit your completed application and supplemental questionnaire by the application deadline.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.  

Pre-Employment Screening: : This position will require a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment. Candidates will be required to submit proof of education to Human Resources upon conditional job offer, if qualifying based on education.
