NHQ:COMM - Spanish Terminologist - Intern - (Fall 2024)

This internship supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Communications (COMM) department, specifically the Multicultural Communications team. This is a 100% virtual opportunity. This position aims to facilitate the editing and translation process by researching and locating information or past publications, which might help language staff produce high-quality translations and ensure the accuracy, appropriateness, and consistency of the usage of terms. The Intern will learn about the specific industry in which they are interning, including its structure, trends, challenges, and opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research terminology usage, providing guidance to drafting, translation, and editing teams.
  • Monitor documentation for changes, inconsistencies, and variations in terminology across different areas.
  • Utilize terminology management tools and Microsoft 365 Apps.
  • Stay updated on organizational and technological developments, making suggestions for improvement.
  • Produce clear and coherent terminology using extensive language skills.
  • Engage in terminological work such as creating, drafting definitions, and developing new terms.
  • Develop and manage terminology databases, adhering to industry standards.
  • Compile and maintain terminology collections such as glossaries and term lists.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts to select appropriate terms.
  • Plan terminology activities and teams.
  • Analyze and test terminology tools available on the market.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate senior or graduate in Linguistics, Localization, Philology, or Translation and Interpretation studies
  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Apps (Excel), terminology management systems, CAT tools (Crowdin), machine translation, term extraction tools, concordance, and corpus analysis tools
  • Resume required
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
