Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee

THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee, you will be responsible for delivering analytical and technical support through the provision of traffic data used by various sources, including the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). You will report to the supervisor in the field operations unit and will assist them in all activities associated with the program. During the training period, you will learn to utilize transportation specific applications, assist with performing project management activities, and analyze field conditions to validate data. Additionally, you will learn how to create project site activity reports, as well as draft scopes of work for individual site repairs, upgrades, or installation projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and extensive statewide travel are required.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
