Finance and Accounting Specialist

Internship Title: Finance & Accounting Specialist 

Company Overview: The Center for Societal Aspiration is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rehabilitating vulnerable members of our community. The CSACO will currently serve individuals facing challenges such as addiction, homelessness, or poverty. Our organization offers a comprehensive range of programs encompassing Health & Human Services and Career Services. Harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile technology, we deliver an intensive and personalized approach to care while providing access to an array of healthcare professionals and career mentors.

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and creative volunteer Finance & Accounting Specialist to join our Finance & Accounting team. The Finance & Accounting Specialist will gain experience in managing daily financial transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards. This role also involves preparing financial reports, conducting audits, and assisting with budget preparation and financial forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to keep the management and board informed about the organization’s financial status.
  2. Budget Management: Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget, ensuring that spending aligns with budget allocations and organizational goals.
  3. Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage and process all accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in billing and payments.
  4. Audit Support: Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits by providing necessary documents and explanations for financial practices and records.
  5. Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  6. Payroll Processing: Oversee payroll functions, ensuring that employees are paid accurately and on time, and that all deductions and payroll taxes are correctly processed.
  7. Financial Analysis: Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, forecast future financial needs, and advise on financial planning and risk management.
  8. Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage the organization’s cash flow to maintain the necessary liquidity for its operations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Passionate about nonprofit work and committed to making a positive impact in the community.
