Principal Engineering Aide
Principal Engineering Aide positions perform and supervise a wide variety of complex subprofessional engineering work regarding the enforcement, investigation, construction, design, inspection, and maintenance of engineering records and projects in an office, laboratory, or field setting; perform GIS mapping and data maintenance associated with facilities, utilities, land use, environmental, and transportation records; perform backflow prevention/cross-connection control; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
- 2% effective 1/1/25
- 5% effective 7/1/25
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Two years of full-time experience as a Senior Engineering Aide or Senior Drafting Aide with the City of San Diego.
- Four years of full-time subprofessional engineering, drafting, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) map preparation experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate issued from a state licensing board.
- Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) Certificate issued from a state licensing board.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
- Experience with Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD).
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certification from an accredited college or institution.
