American Express’ Internal Audit Group (IAG) has reinvented our audit process and is leading the financial services industry with our Audit NextGen and Auditor of the Future initiatives. Each uniquely support our Winning Aspiration to be a world class internal audit function that:

IAG’s innovative Data-Driven Continuous Auditing approach includes patented technology assets over our uniquely developed audit methodology and technology enablers.

How will you make an impact in this role? 

  • Participate as a key team member on an audit team to support IAG in its Audit NextGen objectives, including but not limited:
    • Assist in the ideation and development of impactful and high-quality analytic control tests
    • Assist team leaders, senior managers / managers, and senior auditors in accomplishing audit objectives in a team environment
    • Collaborate with audit teams to understand the data behind key processes, risks, and controls to develop analytic control tests and analyze and interpret their results
    • Develop data literacy skills through ongoing professional development
  • Those joining IAG for the summer internship will develop their Auditor of the Future (AotF) skills through a data analytics focused project working with one of our audit teams.
  • During your internship, you will learn about how to audit business processes with data, the American Express business model, and audit methodology through hands-on, data driven work experience.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program
  • Students must have a graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Relevant financial services industry awareness and an understanding of related products, services, and/or features
  • Desire to develop technology audit and data literacy skills (e.g., technology and data that drives American Express industry leading business processes)
  • Pursuing a BA, BS, or equivalent degree in information systems, data analytics or information technology related field; background in accounting or finance would be a plus
  • Desire and capacity to break-down a complex problem into components, solve them using data analysis, process knowledge and risk/control knowledge, and communicate data analysis, issues and control recommendations with transparency and integrity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that deliver quality, actionable and beneficial feedback to management on potential control issues and solutions to close gaps
  • Effectively works within a team and across teams in a fast-paced environment to drive business results, utilizing related project management skills, employing creative thinking, and the ability to work on competing priorities
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and basic coding skills preferred

Salary Range: $24.05 to $63.00 hourly + sign-on bonus 

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
