Intern (Parks & Recreation/Library Services)

INTERN - Parks and Recreation/Library Services

Learns to make a daily difference in the Campbell County organization and locality through: hard work, open and honest communication, ongoing improvement and accountability.  

 

Performs with excellence, the following tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Answers phones, takes messages, and greets public;
  • Initiates and prepares correspondence and documentation for departmental offices;
  • Collects and distributes mail to departments;
  • Assists in preparation of materials provided to boards/commissions/committees as assigned;
  • Works closely with other County, Regional and State Offices;
  • Assists in preparation of requisitions and requests for appropriations of funds;
  • Codes invoices;
  • Takes minutes and serves as secretary as assigned;
  • Assists with inventory records and other valuable items such as keys and credit cards as directed;
  • Assists the public in a professional, courteous manner to resolve problems and answer questions;
  • Relieves on answering other Departmental phones as needed;
  • Maintains files and other record keeping activities;
  • Generates reports for grant accountability and maintenance as needed;
  • Gathers and complies information for reports;

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree program;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A desire to learn and take initiative with problem solving; and
  • Completion of National Incident Management System (IS-100 and IS- 700 or NIMS equivalent) within 90 days of employment.

  • Excellent technical skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of social media and emerging technology; must be well versed in social media best marketing practices. 
  • Understanding of basic social media analytic measurements

Project Areas of Focus and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns to promote Campbell County parks, as well as recreational programs and events.
  • Develop engaging content for social media platforms, newsletters, and other communication channels.
  • Support the design and distribution of marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, and posters.
  • Collaborate with the marketing assistant to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all platforms.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of program effectiveness, collecting feedback from participants.
  • Assist Parks and Recreation staff with outreach events.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Special Projects

This position will require a special project that will be worked on throughout the internship, in addition to general tasks. 

Options for the special project may include: Marketing Contest; 

  • Video series (Sponsorship Promotion project); 
  • Social Media photo series; or
  • In-person marketing events (ex. half time presentations at league soccer games). 

            Other Skills and Abilities

  • Good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Tact, poise, and resourcefulness in dealing with the public. 
  • Ability to learn various computer software programs. 
  • Physical ability to perform basic administrative tasks.

      Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift more than 25 pounds & work outside in all types of weather conditions and in uncomfortable conditions
