About You

The Outreach Specialist Intern should have the following qualifications:

  • Education: Currently pursuing a degree in healthcare, public health, social work, or a related field
  • Experience: Strong interest in community outreach, healthcare enrollment, or public assistance programs. Familiarity with New York State's Medicaid program is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial: Eager to contribute to innovative solutions that address gaps in healthcare delivery for Black and Brown populations.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Team Player: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Cultural Fit: Demonstrates good judgment, strong ethics, and a desire to grow in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

**About the Internship**

The Outreach Specialist Intern reports to the Director of Care Management, with accountability for providing strategy, judgment, organization, and evidenced-based analysis to influence decisions, and directly to meet CINQCARE requirements. They should embody CINQCARE’s core values, including, Trusted, Empathetic, Committed, Humble, Creative and Community-Minded.

The Outreach Specialist Intern for New York State's Medicaid Advantage Plan (MAP) plays a crucial role in promoting and facilitating enrollment in the MAP program. The primary responsibility of this position is to engage with the community, raise awareness about MAP, and assist eligible individuals in understanding and enrolling in the program. This position requires a strong understanding of Medicaid policies, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to improving healthcare access for New York residents.

Primary Responsibilities

The Outreach Specialist Intern will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute outreach strategies to engage with eligible populations across the state.
  • Attend community events, health fairs, and meetings to provide information and answer questions about the MAP program.
  • Collaborate with local community organizations, clinics, and healthcare providers to expand outreach efforts.
  • Educate potential beneficiaries about the benefits, eligibility criteria, and coverage options under MAP.
  • Provide clear and accurate information on how to apply for MAP and guide individuals through the enrollment process.
  • Create and distribute educational materials, such as brochures, flyers, and presentations.
  • Assist individuals in completing MAP applications, including gathering required documentation.
  • Help applicants understand their rights and responsibilities within the program.
  • Provide support for resolving any issues or challenges during the enrollment process.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, including the number of people reached and assisted.
  • Compile and submit regular reports on outreach efforts and enrollment statistics to the appropriate department.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to outreach and enrollment efforts.
  • Stay updated on changes in Medicaid policies and program updates and attend relevant training sessions.

**Internship Duration and Compensation**

  • Duration: The internship is for a minimum of 90 days, with the potential for permanent employment with CINQCARE based on performance and organizational needs.

The working environment and physical requirements of the job include:

This position requires both field and office-based work. The job requires frequent travel for home visits and travel to physician offices, hospitals, sub-acute facilities, community partners and non-home-based market offices in all types of weather conditions. In-office work is performed indoors in a traditional office setting with conditioned air, artificial light, and an open workspace.

In this position you will need an ability to travel frequently by car and/or public transportation, the ability to communicate with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers in person and over devices, sometimes with people who are agitated. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Must be able to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Lifting of up to 30 lbs. occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines. Good reasoning ability is important. Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.
