GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION- STUDENT INTERN

 

Part-time Entry Level position for professional work. Performs assignments designed to develop professional engineering practice knowledge and their abilities in the office and field. Requires the application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Limited judgement exercised on details of work. 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE 

  • BSCE/BSAE – OR – MSCE/MSAE degree from an ABET accredited Engineering curriculum. 
  • Certified Engineer-in-Training (has passed the FE Exam)
  • Possesses basic computer skills learned in college, such as spreadsheets and programming logic.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exposed to working with Revit Structure.
  • Plans to pursue Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering (MSCE/MSAE)
  • Has previous engineering and/or construction experience.
  • Possesses interest and shows self-motivation in learning structural engineering.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive. 

 

  • Focuses on design of components of structures and tasks assigned by the Project Manager.
    • Completes manual design calculations for components of structure.
    • Studies and applies building code requirements under the supervision of the Project Manager.
    • Uses computer software for analysis and design.
    • Accomplishes reference research
  • Uses Revit Structures to prepare BIM models and associated details and plan-work
  • Provides quality-control checks of one’s own work.
  • Calculates and checks dimensions.
  • Works collaboratively with staff at Haines Structural Group.
  • Checks shop drawings and product submittals.
  • Completes detail library or template updates/revisions, as assigned and in collaboration with Structural Designers.

 

MANAGEMENT

  • Continually updates and improves Revit libraries and Standards.
  • Coordinate BIM model sharing, BIM file management, and set-up with staff and clients.
  • Creates structural calculation spreadsheets to aid in efficient structural design.

 

SUPERVISION & AUTHORITY

  • No supervision of others
