Intern, Cybersecurity Analyst

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

JOB TITLE: Intern – Cybersecurity Analyst

DEPARTMENT: Information Security - F&M Service Center

LOCATION: Kansas City, Missouri

PAY RANGE: $20.00 - $24.00 / Hour

 

Full-Time Internship Position for Summer 2025

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Schedule flexible)

Intern Description:

This position is in Evergy’s Cybersecurity Operations & Network Infrastructure Center.  This team is tasked with monitoring for and responding to cybersecurity threats. This is a terrific opportunity for an intern that has an interest in this field and wants to learn what it is like to protect part of the United States critical infrastructure.

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Monitor and respond to security events using various cybersecurity tools
  • Triage alerts and incidents, identifying potential threats and operational issues
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving security and operational processes
  • Stay up to date on the latest security threats and trends
  • Review suspicious emails submitted by staff
  • Develop familiarity with Evergy’s systems, environments, and processes
  • Perform threat and vulnerability analysis as well as security advisory services
  • Learn how to apply cybersecurity & network concepts & frameworks to real-world circumstances
  • Develop critical thinking skills and communication of analyses (written and verbal)
  • Have a great learning experience.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or foreign national of a Generally Authorized Destination (GAD) due to 10 CFR 810 regulations
  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in a university or technical program in one of the following or a related technical field: Cybersecurity, Information Security, or Computer Science.
  • Candidate must be able to work on-site at one of our Kansas City locations at least one day per week

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Excellent prioritization, collaboration, & communication skills (written & verbal).  
  • Love to solve problems and have a passion for learning
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel. 
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols, security technologies, and operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.)
  • Experience with incident detection, response, and resolution processes preferred
  • Experience using security information and event management (SIEM) tools, antivirus software, and incident response procedures
  • Proficiency in the Office 365 suite of products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively
  • Capacity to adapt to evolving cybersecurity threats and technologies
  • Passion for cybersecurity and a desire to contribute to critical infrastructure protection 

 

 

Working Conditions:

When in the office the location will be in an operations center working along co-workers at monitoring stations, working virtually from the home requires your systems and to be in a secure space. Working as a cybersecurity analyst requires sitting/standing at a workstation for prolonged periods of time.
