Audit Staff

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Audit Staff work under the guidance of experienced professionals on audit engagements within a team setting. They assist in the audit of selected financial statement accounts, document accounting systems and internal controls, prepare appropriate audit workpapers, assist in the preparation of financial statements, tax returns and other client deliverables. Audit staff communicate directly with clients, audit seniors, managers, directors, principals and partners. In addition to their audit engagement assignments, audit staff may also gain experience in certain consulting/special projects. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITES: AUDIT, ACCOUNTING, AND TAX: 

  • Develops basic technical knowledge with a heavy emphasis on learning on-the-job as employee moves from one audit engagement to the next, including: - Document accounting systems and internal controls 
  • Assist in audit of certain financial statement accounts; assigned work will become more challenging with additional experience 
  • Prepare audit workpapers that are informative, indexed, cross-referenced and can easily be understood and explained; improving effectiveness on workpapers from the prior year 
  • Prepare client tax returns (Forms 990 and 5500) 
  • Resolve audit issues by obtaining evidence and making inquiries to clients 
  • Responsible for becoming familiar with typical auditing procedures (Calibre standard audit programs) and performing procedures in accordance with Firm standards (use of Calibre standard workpapers) in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner 
  • Ask questions of supervisor in a timely manner when problems or confusion arise. 
  • Identify and communicate accounting and auditing matters to senior auditors, managers, directors, principals and partners 
  • Clear open review notes in a thorough and timely manner and assist in post fieldwork wrap up, as requested 
  • Maintain an organized open items list 

CLIENT MANAGEMENT: 

  • Learns how to interact with clients efficiently, representing the Firm in a positive and professional manner 
  • Ability to earn the trust and confidence of clients and colleagues 

TECHNICAL SKILLS: 

  • Basic technical knowledge of accounting practices 
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint 
  • Knowledge of GAAP and GAAS 
  • General computer literacy 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: 

  • Actively pursue and pass the CPA exam 
  • Begin to participate in Firm’s marketing efforts by taking part in networking activities 
  • Participates in Firm-sponsored education, recruiting, social, and community service activities, as schedule permits 

Work Environment: 

  • This job operates in a professional office environment; 80-90% of time spent at client sites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners. 

Travel: 

  • Local and overnight travel to client sites 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university 
  • Accounting GPA 2.75 or higher 
  • CPA eligibility 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • CPA designation 
  • Prior accounting experience
