Property Agent

Property Agents perform sensitive and challenging real property transactions in the Real Estate Division of the City’s Economic Development Department. Job functions may include one or more of the following: Leasing, property management, acquisitions, dispositions, lease administration, project management, municipal asset services, special projects, valuations, appraisals, negotiation of relocation and rights-of-way, asset management, airport property leasing and development, property assessments, property inspections, reporting, financial analysis, training of staff members, and other duties as assigned.

NOTES:

Employees in job classifications represented by the Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:

  • 2% effective 1/1/25
  • 5% effective 7/1/25  

Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).
 

EXPERIENCE:  Three years of full-time commercial real estate property transactional experience in at least ONE of the following areas:

  • Appraisal/valuation
  • Acquisitions and disposition
  • Relocation and right-of-way
  • Property and/or asset management
  • Commercial sales/leasing
  • Commercial real estate brokerage

LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

  • Experience working for a Telecommunications provider in site acquisition, leasing, or project management.
  • Commercial Real Estate project management experience.
  • Experience working with public agencies and municipalities, including permitting departments and planning groups/commissions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Business, Land Use/Urban Planning, or Economics.
  • Experience in a governmental or public agency which includes experience in the oversight and evaluation of commercial real estate transactions, land use and development policy, and real estate finance and/or economics.
  • Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI).
  • A valid state-accredited real estate appraisal license equivalent to the California Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers (BREA) Certified General (AG) license.
  • Experience in complex commercial lease negotiations and administration of ground leases.
  • Experience conducting complex financial analyses and preparing reports.
  • Experience with space planning and leasing of commercial office space.
  • Experience with GIS, mapping, and reviewing surveys, plats, and legal descriptions.
  • Experience with FAA regulations and how they apply to airport-obligated leases and land.
