Intern - Enterprise Risk Management (Summer 2025)

Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

 

The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Intern is responsible for supporting the implementation and execution of United’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program. The objective of the ERM function is to implement and execute a framework that enables Risk Teams at United to identify, assess and mitigate risks that have the potential to materially impact the Company’s operation, financials and/or reputation. ERM plays a key role in ensuring that senior executives and members of the board of directors can make risk-informed decisions to help United achieve its strategic, financial, and operational objectives by shaping the Company’s overall risk position.

  • Engage in supporting the development, implementation, and on-going maintenance of the enterprise risk management framework
  • Contribute to the risk monitoring and reporting process(es) by gathering data, assisting in the development of dashboards, key program performance indicators, and other relevant risk information
  • Prepare ERM reporting packages and presentation materials for executive leadership and Board of Directors
  • Apply enterprise risk methodologies to analyze and measure existing risks
  • Interact with various leaders throughout the Company to define, establish, and manage ongoing risk remediation initiatives
  • Learn industry best practices to understand emerging risks and work to identify and implement continuous ERM Program improvement opportunities
  • Identify trends by analyzing risk deficiencies, risk events, tests and exercises, including supporting root cause and lessons learned analysis

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

·       Applicant must be a current student or within one year of graduation at either of the following levels: BS, BA (preferably major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or related field)

·       Excellent analytical skill

·       Solid verbal & written communication skills

·       Proficiency with MS Offices

·       Strong interpersonal skills with focus on teamwork

·       Ability to handle simultaneous projects and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment

·       This role will be based in Chicago and follow a hybrid scheduling model for 12 weeks during Summer 2025

·       Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

·       Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
